Version 1.5.3

The cutting direction preview stays under the model controls on the left. Keep view while cropping and editing is enabled by default. For platforms, choose No gaps · integrated platform or With gaps · separate platform. At zero gap the entire platform is sliced with the model; there are no tabs, glue or separate plate. Add side assembly holes after slicing. The 12 wave patterns are visible in the relief panel; choosing a pattern enables the rectangular background. Open mobo-slicer-1.6.0.html and check v1.5.3 in the header.

NEW IN 1.5.3 — KEEP DETACHED PIECES
Platform contact is checked per rib, not by connectivity of the whole 3D model. Keep detached pieces is enabled by default. Pieces without contact with the platform or background keep their original position without invented tabs, slots or glue marks. After slicing their count and IDs are shown; the export instructions and manifest.json contain the complete list and positions. Choose their attachment during assembly. Disable the option to restore strict contact checking. The setting is saved in projects.

FIX 1.5.3 — CENTRAL RIB
Contour simplification now removes near-collinear points sequentially. Almost coincident intersections at a real corner no longer disappear together, preserving the central profile across model sizes. The fix applies to previews and SVG/DXF exports. After updating, slice again or load the saved project to recalculate the cuts.

NEW WORKSPACE 1.6.0
Left: 3D/DXF imports, samples, model size, rotation and cropping. The slice direction preview and visible-layer controls remain below them.
Top: build mode, Model / Stacked / Exploded / Sheets, camera presets and fit. Project save/load are in the header.
Right: Cuts, Relief, Waves and Export tabs. Changing tabs does not change model or production settings. Relief and Waves become available in platform mode.
Slice model and Reset slices remain at the bottom right. Platform dimensions, joints, assembly result and holes expand when you click their group title.
Material colour selection has been removed. The preview always uses light wood. Older projects, including other colours, remain compatible. Calculations, production dimensions and SVG/DXF/STL exports are unchanged.
On narrower displays the panels move below the preview.
Upload the contents of web/ and open mobo-slicer-1.6.0.html. Check v1.6.0 in the header.

Layers ready for laser cutting

mobo slicer turns a closed 3D model into flat outlines for cutting from sheets and stacking. Processing, project files and exports run in your browser without an account or fees.

Fix 1.4.1: Cropping, recessing and other model edits preserve your current rotation, zoom and pan. Automatic framing runs on a new import or when you press ⛶. Both number fields and sliders keep the view.

New in 1.4: unsliced STL and DXF to 3D

Export a cropped model as STL

  1. Choose Slice a model and import your model.
  2. Set its size. To remove part of it, enable the cropping board and set the axis, retained side and submerge depth.
  3. Click Download model STL. Slicing is optional. The file contains the retained model at its current size and orientation, with a capped cut face. The board is excluded.

This button works before slicing and independently of material thickness. The binary STL coordinates are in mm; choose millimetres in your receiving application. STL export is available in the mode without a platform. Start with a closed mesh; this function does not repair existing mesh defects.

Create a 3D shape from DXF

  1. Click Import DXF vector. Use an ASCII DXF containing closed 2D outlines in XY. Convert letters to curves rather than TEXT/MTEXT. Interior holes are preserved.
  2. In DXF → 3D shape, set the height and surface. Straight extrusion / cylinder extrudes any outline. Rounded top creates a curved profile over the outline, including letters such as M. Rounding width is the distance from the edge at which the profile reaches full height; narrow parts can limit it. The percentage controls the rounded share of the total height, leaving straight walls below.
  3. For a single circle, choose Dome / hemisphere. Height equal to the radius makes a hemisphere; other heights make ellipsoidal domes. Set hemisphere height uses the radius of the original DXF circle.
  4. Click Create / update 3D shape. Rotate, resize, crop, slice or export STL using the usual controls. Parameter changes take effect only when you click this button, preserving the current scale and rotation.

Sample: circle and Sample: letter M work without a file. Surface detail controls the triangle approximation of curved surfaces. Rounded letters use a generated curved profile rather than a CAD fillet with a guaranteed radius. Save project includes the DXF outline, height, surface type, rounding, detail and rotation so they remain editable after reloading.

Supported entities: CIRCLE, ARC, LINE, LWPOLYLINE including bulge arcs, 2D POLYLINE, ELLIPSE, control-point SPLINE and INSERT blocks. Open lines and unsupported entities are skipped and listed in a note. Convert HATCH, TEXT and MTEXT to closed outlines. Maximum DXF size: 20 MB and 20,000 points; generated geometry: 1 million triangles. $INSUNITS are converted to mm; missing or unknown units are interpreted as mm and identified in the note. New format-4 projects need version 1.4; older projects remain supported.

Choose how to work

At the start, choose Slice a model for standalone layers or Relief on a platform for vertical ribs with a physical backboard. You can switch modes without importing the model again.

Import, size and slice

  1. Import an STL, OBJ or GLB file, drag it into the preview, or try the sample model.
  2. Set the model dimensions in millimetres. Overall scale 200% doubles the size. With Keep proportions enabled, changing one dimension updates the others. Disable it to change dimensions independently. Scale along slicing axis stretches the model along the selected axis only.
  3. Select slicing axis X, Y or Z and enter the actual material thickness. Rotate the model by 90 degrees when needed.
  4. Click Slice model. Inspect the stacked or exploded preview and use the slider to show layers from the base.
  5. Add alignment holes by clicking inside the outline or entering coordinates from the model centre. A hole is cut only in layers where the entire circle fits inside the material. The list shows its layer coverage.
  6. Set sheet dimensions, gap and margin, then download sheets or separate layers as a ZIP of SVG or DXF files.

The assembly size is layer count × material thickness. It may exceed the requested size by less than one material thickness. Outlines are sampled near the centres of evenly spaced intervals through the model.

Crop a bust down to its head

In Slice a model, enable Trim the submerged part of the model under Cropping board. For an upright bust, choose crop axis Z, keep Above the plane (+), and increase Submerge below the board until the plane reaches the neck. The body below the board is removed from every section. The cropped head dimensions and layer count are recalculated without resizing the head. The translucent blue board is a preview aid only: it has no exported contours, tabs or slots. All slicing axes X/Y/Z remain available. You can crop along another axis or keep the opposite side too.

Change the depth or disable cropping to recover the full loaded model. Reset slices preserves the model and crop settings; no reimport is needed.

Recessed relief, platform and spaced ribs

Set Gap between ribs in Slice settings. Zero keeps the original stacked construction. A positive gap uses fewer cuts at a pitch of thickness + gap. Sections are sampled at their actual assembly positions without stretching or rescaling the model. The ribs are centred within the original span; a small unused distance may remain at each edge. Model size and physical rib span are reported separately.

  1. Choose Relief on a platform at the start. Orient the model with height along Z and choose Slice direction X or Y. Ribs are always vertical from top to bottom; horizontal Z slicing is disabled in this mode.
  2. For X slicing, the recess axis is Y. Choose Negative (−) for relief facing the Front view. The backboard lies in the X / Z plane. For Y slicing, the recess axis is X and the backboard lies in Y / Z. Both relief directions are supported. Z is always the height axis.
  3. Adjust Recess depth. Zero places the platform at the model's rear edge. Increasing it moves the platform's front face into the model and trims everything behind that face. The original mesh is preserved, so you can change the depth and slice again. The model view shows the clipped mesh and a translucent platform before slicing.
  4. Choose Rectangular background + model for full rectangular ribs with a protruding model, like the photograph. Background depth sets how far the rectangular strip extends in front of the platform. Choose Trimmed model only for model profiles. A blank or zero Background depth also keeps only the exposed model profiles, without a rectangular strip. Every piece must touch the platform. If a component floats in front of it without contact, increase recess depth or add a background until it can be attached.
  5. Fit the platform to the model with a margin, or enter width and height manually. Width follows the slicing axis; height follows the other platform axis. Platform thickness can differ from rib thickness.
  6. Set tab count and tab width. Tabs are positioned automatically on each separate piece's platform edge. If fewer full-width tabs fit, their number is reduced. If none fit, no tab or slot is cut: a blue outline marks the actual contact footprint to glue onto the platform. This glue engraving remains enabled even when layer numbering is off. A platform with glue marks only is valid. IDs such as 7.1 and 7.2 distinguish separate components in rib 7; if a piece is too small for a label, its location is recorded in manifest.json. Tab depth matches platform thickness. Slots measure rib thickness + clearance × tab width + clearance. Clearance is added to each total dimension, rather than each side. A 3 mm rib, 10 mm tab and 0.15 mm clearance give a 3.15 × 10.15 mm slot.
  7. Slice and inspect the stacked preview. The platform with rectangular slots is included in sheets and in the platforma folder of the separate-parts ZIP. Slot numbers match rib numbers; when there is no safe room for engraving, use the coordinates in manifest.json.

For positive gaps and a separate platform, leave at least 0.5 mm of material between slots: rib gap must be at least clearance + 0.5 mm. These are straight tab-and-slot joints without undercut catches. Choose clearance for a friction fit or glue, and cut one test joint. Circular alignment holes still work in the ribs and are not automatically transferred to the platform.

Saved .slicerproj projects include spacing, recess, platform and joint settings. Version 1.1 projects load with zero gap and no platform. New projects include the working mode and cropping settings and require version 1.3 or newer. Version 1.2 platform projects with horizontal ribs load for review with vertical axes and must be sliced again; a message explains this change.

Reset slices and save projects

Reset slices keeps the imported model, size and orientation, and clears generated layers and holes. Choose another axis or thickness and slice again. You can also change direction directly using the axis buttons.

Save project downloads a .slicerproj file containing the original and oriented mesh, dimensions, slicing axis, axis scale, thickness, holes, preview material, sheet layout settings and export options. You can save before slicing as well.

Later, click Load project and select that file. The original STL/OBJ/GLB is no longer needed. If the project was saved with generated slices, they are automatically recalculated with the saved settings, ready for export. The selected view and visible layer count are restored too.

Store project files on your computer or in your own storage. The full model is embedded in the file; no account is needed. The maximum project file size is 160 MB. Laser-export ZIP files contain production files, rather than a complete project that can be reloaded.

SVG includes physical millimetre dimensions and a matching viewBox. Select millimetres when importing DXF. Numbers are omitted when a layer has insufficient safe space; layer order is always recorded in separate file names and manifest.json.

Layer numbering starts at the lowest coordinate of the selected axis. Align parts using the model or holes, rather than the lower-left corners of the individual pieces. Set power and speed for your material in your laser software. Kerf compensation is not applied by the slicer. Cut a test piece first.

Languages

Use the EN / SK selector in the top bar. On first use, a Slovak browser language selects Slovak; all other languages select English. Your manual choice is remembered in that browser. Switching languages keeps the loaded model, settings and slices.

Supported files and limits

Install on your own website

  1. Extract the ZIP package.
  2. Upload the contents of web into your chosen website folder, for example /slicer/. Keep all files together, including mobo-logo.png.
  3. Open /slicer/index.html. No PHP, database, Node.js server or API key is required.

All libraries are bundled; no CDN or internet API is needed. Use a current Chrome, Edge or Firefox browser. The 3D preview uses WebGL with a software fallback. Static HTTP/HTTPS hosting and subfolders are supported. Direct file opening may be restricted by your browser.

If your host applies a strict Content Security Policy, allow same-origin scripts and styles, worker-src 'self' blob: and img-src 'self' data: blob:.

NEW IN 1.5.0
- Zero gap in platform mode cuts the platform together with the model into every rib. No separate plate, tabs or glue. After slicing, add Side assembly holes and join the stack with rods. Place holes in an area shared by all ribs and check the number of matching layers. Assembly width rounds up to a multiple of material thickness.
- Positive gaps retain a separate platform with slots and tabs.
- Wavy background: 12 patterns with depth, wavelength, model fade and a repeatable variation number. Click Preview relief with waves. Settings are saved in projects.
- A small sidebar preview follows model and camera rotation and shows cutting planes.
- Cropping, recess and size adjustments preserve the manually chosen camera view.
New projects use format 5 and require version 1.5. Older projects remain readable.
